Develop - building your site

When the design of your site is settled, then we are ready to "build it out." Since the dynamic nature of a web page can cause some minor changes in the way that the design is presented, we will ask for you to approve this as well before continuing. This is also the

time that we develop the technical systems for the site, whether it is e-commerce or a database-driven content system. We will test all of the functionality and the pages for internet readiness at this point.
Usability Testing
During production it may be useful to test your site with customers or employees in order to get feedback. A usability test can let your customers provide feedback during the process.
Graphic Production All of the graphical elements on your site will be optimized to download as fast as possible. The difference between proper and improper optimization can be the difference between a happy or a frustrated visitor. Some of the text on your site may also be in the form of a graphic due to the inability of most web browsers to display a wide range of fonts.
Written Content The written content on your site will also be formatted for easy reading. You may notice how text on some sites is difficult to read because it breaks all of the time-honored rules of good typography. One reason is the nature of HTML, the language used to create web pages. There are work-arounds for this and we will present you with some options.
Fundamentals Fundamentals of a winning web site:

• People crave easy site navigation. One of the reasons for Amazon.com's popularity with consumers is the clear, simple design of its online shopping process. In the survey, 45% said they had been frustrated on sites that were too difficult to use. When designing web sites, we apply the KISS principle ("Keep It Simple, Stupid").

• Good clean graphics. We will not overdesign your web site. The more graphics you put into it, the slower the pages download to the viewer.

• Readability (e.g., no green type on a blue background) - we keep your page designs straightforward.

• Good, useful content that helps you reach your goals and objectives.

• Simple approach to conveying information.

• Ease of use.

• Speed.

• Slow downloading drives visitors crazy. Almost half of online shoppers surveyed said they left sites when pages took too long to download. According to Zona Research, web pages take anywhere from 3 to 11 seconds to download, depending on the user's modem and Internet connection. The average viewer will "bail out" - click off the site onto another - if a page takes more than 8 seconds to download.
